Fried pumpkin flower recipe

Caciosalame, red onion of Tropea, 'nduja of Spilinga, sardines: these are just some of the ingredients with which to obtain the filling of our beloved pancakes of pumpkin flowers.

Typical appetizer of the territory, the pumpkin flower pancakes are appreciated for their versatility and infinite goodness.

The ingredient to prepare the fried pumpkin flower

  • 24 fresh flowers of pumpkin
  • 100g of seasoned caciosalame
  • 2 red onions of Tropea
  • 50g of 'Nduja of spilinga
  • 300g of flour
  • 2 egg
  • 250ml of sparkling water
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper q.b.

How to prepare the fried pumpkin flower

Start by pouring the flour with the eggs in a bowl and gradually add the sparkling water, until you get a smooth dough.

Cut the caciosalame into small cubes and set aside. Then clean the pumpkin flowers removing the pistil and cut them into coarse pieces.

Pour the pumpkin flowers into the dough and stir gently.

In the meantime, prepare the other ingredients, depending on the taste: the caciosalame cut into cubes, the red onion of Tropea for a vegetarian variant or the 'nduja of Spilinga to give a strong and spicy taste.

In a pan, heat the extra virgin olive oil and, when it is hot, start frying your pancakes dividing them according to the filling you prefer.

Add salt and serve hot.
