Peppers stuffed with breadcrumbs

Peppers stuffed with breadcrumbs are a typical and very tasty dish of the Calabrian tradition. This recipe is part of the poor but genuine cuisine of the past.

Peppers stuffed with breadcrumbs Calabrian style, ingredients

  • 4 peppers
  • 100g of breadcrumbs
  • 20g of desalted capers
  • 6 anchovy fillets in oil
  • 50g of grated pecorino cheese
  • 2 spoons of water
  • 2 teaspoons of crushed chilli pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of minced garlic
  • Basil to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 spoons extra virgin olive oil

How to make peppers stuffed with breadcrumbs Calabrian style

Wash the peppers, dry them and cut the tops off. Remove the seeds and internal filaments. Grease the peppers and put them in the oven at 180° for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and discard the vegetable water.

Stuffing: mix the breadcrumbs with the chopped capers, anchovies, cheese and salt to taste. Season with the Calabrian chilli pepper, minced garlic and basil. Add a little oil, mix everything together and add water if necessary.

Put the peppers in the oven to cook au gratin at 200° for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and serve, enjoy your meal!
