Honey caramels

A natural remedy for alleviating the symptoms of coughs and sore throats, honey sweets can easily be made at home and require only a few simple ingredients: water, sugar and honey.

Ingredients for making honey candy at home

  • 100g of sugar
  • 50g of water
  • 40g of honey

How to make honey caramels at home

To make the honey candy, you need a thick-bottomed stainless steel saucepan. Pour the sugar and water into the saucepan and turn the heat up to medium. Stir briefly and bring to the boil, then add the honey and stir thoroughly to mix with the sugar.

Bring the mixture back to the boil and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it starts to brown. Be very careful at this point, as the caramel will soon burn. You will need to cook it for a few more moments, stirring often, until it has taken on a nice amber colour. Remove it from the heat immediately and prepare a tray with the silicone moulds next to it.

Spread the caramel into the moulds with the help of a spoon. Once you have filled all the moulds, let your honey caramels cool completely (about 10 minutes), then turn them out of the moulds.

If you wish, you can wrap them one by one in squares of baking paper. Otherwise, as they remain quite sticky, you can cover them entirely with icing sugar to prevent them from sticking together.
