  • 300g of sugar
  • 8 bergamots from Reggio Calabria
  • Bergamot essential oil PDO to taste

How to make bergamot liqueur at home

Wash and dry the bergamots, peel them with a sharp knife or a potato peeler; be careful not to remove the white part as well. Pour the alcohol into an airtight glass jar and add the peels.

Close the jar and leave to macerate for 7 days, ideally in the dark and in a cool place. Prepare a syrup after the necessary time has elapsed: bring 500g of water to the boil and dissolve the sugar in it, then turn off the heat and leave to cool.

Strain the liqueur through a sieve, pour it into bottles with the help of a funnel and add the syrup. Let it sit for about 20 days in a cool, dark place to stabilise the taste.

Then store the bottles in the pantry, fridge or freezer. Before offering the Reggio Calabria bergamot liqueur, shake it well and serve it cold, it will be very pleasant to taste and with digestive properties.
